2015 PERINET
SCORE 18/20
DATE TASTED 8 DEC 2017
REVIEWED BY FERRAN CENTELLES

33% Garnatxa (Grenache), 25% Syrah, 25% Carinyena (Carignan) and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon. Bunches were hand sorted in the vineyard and in the winery. Destemmed and crushed directly into small stainless-steel open tanks and big barrels for fermentation. Cold storage for two days. Punching down by hand once or twice per day. After a 10–21 day maceration, free-run wine was transferred to barrels. 90% aged in new French oak for 15 months. Neither fined nor filtered. Production of 12,000 bottles. Tasted blind. The wine has an over-sized charge of dark fruit. It is muscular and rich, with a superbly deep nose. It is an opulent wine, with intense but integrated oak. Energetic, deep and a blockbuster. Very savoury, a bit warm but exceptional on the fruit side. A monstrously delicious wine! I am impressed!

2015 PERINET 1194

The top cuvée is the 2015 1194, a blend of 65% Garnacha, 22% Carinyena and the rest Syrah brought up, I expect, in plenty of new oak. It’s deep purple, slightly translucent color is followed by a rich, blockbuster style bouquet that include loads of cassis and plum liqueur-like fruits, licorice, dried, chalky earth, and hints of licorice. Possessing beautiful purity, full-bodied richness, and ample yet sweet tannin, it’s a rich, pedal-to-the-metal beauty that stays balanced, pure, even elegant. It’s going to drink nicely for 10-15 years.

A shifted blend from the 2014 that’s 33% Grenache, 25% each of Carignan and Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Perinet sports a deep purple color as well as a smoking bouquet of blackberry and currant fruits intermixed with loads of scorched earth, graphite, baking spices, and crushed rocks. It’s a big, powerful wine, yet it has good acidity, is beautifully balanced, and has a great finish. This terrific Priorat that will benefit from short term cellaring and keep for 10-15 years.

2015 PERINET MERIT
RATING 91
TASTING DATE 07/11/2018
REVIEWED BY JEB DUNNUCK

The 2015 Merit is close to an even split of Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot and is a good value. Black raspberries, cassis, cedary spice, and dried earth and floral notes all emerge from this fruit forward, ripe, yet also savory and complex Priorat that shows more and more minerality with time in the glass. This balanced, textbook Priorat has real class and should drink nicely for 5-7 years.
